Cobalt Ore is the entry level ore that is mined in Wrath of the Lich King.  It requires 350 skill to mine normal Cobalt Deposits and 375 to mine Rich Cobalt Deposits.  It can be found in the entry level zones of Northrend, such as, Grizzly Hills, Zul’Drak, Howling Fjord, Borean Tundra, and Dragonblight.

The best place to farm Cobalt is probably in Zul’Drak if you have a flying mount but all the zones work fine, it’s really a preference on which cobalt routes you like the best and how crowded the zones are on your server.

Rich Cobalt Nodes will primarily spawn in the higher level zones like Zul’Drak just so you are aware.  The lower level the zone the less Rich Cobalt Nodes you will see.

In this guide you will find the best Cobalt mining routes that I have come up with.  Below all of my routes are screenshots of the popular databases so that you can see for yourself where all the node spawns are.  I’ve used the data and my personal experience to create these routes, the mileage may vary, and some spots on my maps you have to use common sense, ie, you can’t follow the line because you have to go around something in your way.

Cobalt Ore in Zul’Drak

I’m giving the #1 spot for farming Cobalt Ore to Zul’Drak just because it has the most frequency of nodes, but really, Cobalt is hard to mine unless you have an epic fliar or stay in a single area.  There’s so many messed up landscapes in the lower level zones for routes.  The route I give you is good, the middle line is just so you can path back and forth to the outside routes where most of the ore will be.

Cobalt Ore in Grizzly Hills

The rest of these are in no particular order, although I will say, mining Cobalt in Grizzly Hills is probably one of the easest things to do.  The routes are simple and make sense and there’s not a lot of obstacles in the way.  This is definately a good zone to check out especially if Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra are camped heavily.

Cobalt Ore in Dragonblight

Again, this is one of my other favorite spots to mine Cobalt in because Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra are usually crowded and hard to navigate on ground.   When you get to the big crater areas on the cobalt route, just jump down in them, but use common sense, there’s usually 1 or 2 pathways that lead into them, you can’t always follow my line unless you are on a flying mount.

Cobalt Ore in Borean Tundra

Borean Tundra has a lot of Cobalt Deposit Nodes in it but since it is a beginning zone it is usually crowded, however, at the right time and on the right server, following my cobalt mining route can net you some serious cobalt supply.  So keep Borean Tundra open as a viable cobalt mining option.  remember to reach Coldara you either need to be on a flying mount or take the flight from Amber Ledge.  There are a few Cobalt Deposits that spawn around Coldarra.

Cobalt Ore in Howling Fjord

Cobalt mining in Howling Fjord is not as bad as it looks.  The route I have for you doesn”t require any funky drop offs and the only catch to this route is the dotted line that leads to the island in the southwest.  That’s optional, if you want to fly or swim out there, there’s a few cobalt node spawns on that island.  This is a very simple mining route to follow though.
